Today's Eats

That's right--I actually took pictures of the food that I ingested today!

It all started with this apple oatmeal goodness:

This doesn't look like much, especially in the bowl that we got from the insurance company after the fire, but it was just what I needed this morning. I let the oatmeal cook longer over a low heat to soften up the apples, and I also used coconut/almond milk instead of water to cook it. And that almond butter you see in the background? Soooo good. I've always been a peanut butter person, but every once and awhile I'll get a jar of almond butter and wonder why I don't do it more often.

Breakfast was eaten after trying to figure out my phone's panorama feature and taking this picture:

After breakfast I tried to make my mushy brain do some work, until about ten a.m. when I went to the gym for a run. I've been kind of irritable the last few days, so a good run with energizing music did me some good.

Something else that did me some good? Going to a movie in the middle of the day and eating brussel sprouts and a muffin top for lunch.

Movie theaters aren't high on the list of good places to take photos. I saw Seven Psychopaths, and while it wasn't the best movie I've ever seen, it was funny, clever, and definitely entertaining.

After the movie I went to the Levi's store on the 29th Street Mall to try on jeans. The sales girl at the Levi's store had definite ideas about how jeans should fit, and kept insisting that I try on and buy jeans that were tighter than I like. (Even after I explained my distaste for the muffin top effect.) Actually, I never said the words "muffin top"; she used the word when I was trying to describe how the jeans were too tight in the waist. Thanks a lot.

The remainder of the day has been pretty uneventful. I made some noochy kale

which I enjoyed with a cranberry kombucha. Now, I'm snuggled down for the night, kind of watching TV and looking at random sites on the internets. Peace out, peeps!

*Almond or peanut butter? Also, what are your thoughts about oatmeal? Obviously it's big in the blog world, but do you really like it? (How about when you don't add gobs of honey, maple syrup, or brown sugar--then do you really like it?)

  1. PEANUT BUTTER! Actually, I usually have both on hand but I've always been a classic PB kinda girl. After basically being obsessed with oatmeal (covered in all kinds of toppings) for the past couple of years I've actually been barely eating it lately. It's just that muffins and toast and smoothies and cottage cheese with strawberries and Evol burriots have been calling to me. I'm snuggled down for the night too :)

    1. Mmmm, I _love_ Evol burriots!!! Those burriots are my fav:-) Haha, just kidding. But I will take that as a personal recommendation for those chubby little burritos, and finally give them a try!

    2. Even English majors make typos! :) The "burriots" aren't even *that* good. Just fast and easy.

    3. Ha! It's true! I once mistook a professor's name, and on a paper that I handed in I wrote her name as "Kathy Bates."
I'm pretty confident she told all of her professor friends about how stupid I was!

  2. I've never found nut butter all that appealing, but that might be because I grew up in Germany, where that stuff has until recently been an exotic foreign food. Not sure why, since we eat plenty of nuts over there.

    1. I had an ex-boyfriend who had lived in Germany and France for several years, and he just looked at me like a crazy person when I waxed on about how great peanut butter is.
Do you like peanut butter, though? Like, enjoy eating it and find it delicious?

    2. Hm, not really. I don't know what to do with it. I know I could spread it on bread, but that's what real butter is for, which is much better in my opinion. I know some people (like you, ahem) put it into oatmeal, but it seems like that would make the oatmeal all weird and greasy. And I already put chopped walnuts into my oatmeal. I suppose sate sauce needs peanut butter, but I only eat sate about once every six months. Enlighten me?
